Asalam alikum

I am thinking about sending my young son to an Islamic school instead of the local comprehensive, what do the members of this forum think are the bad/good points of this action?

I think that it’s best to send your son to an Islamic school because they will start to learn about Islam from a very young age. If they are at the comprehensive school, they will be subjected to western values and no doubt be ignorant to the values that Islam teaches. I’m sure that the rise of young Muslims who don’t adhere to the teachings of Islam is partly due to the teachings they were taught at school.

I think that you should send your son to the comprehensive school because even if he goes to an Islamic school he’ll still be subjected to western values outside of school. Therefore, the best course of action would be for him to learn about the West at school and then learn about Islam at home or at the local mosque. That way he’ll get the best of both worlds!

I am in agreement with Amir. There is a much larger range of applicable subjects that he could have at his disposal that would help him with opportunities in countries like Britain. I am not saying that you should not learn about Islam because that is the last thing you should make your son do. He could learn about Islam in the evenings if he was to attend the local mosque. This way he has the ability to learn about Islam and have the access to other subjects thus equipping with a lot more skills.

Personally if you do send your son to an Islamic school, will it be school which follows Ahle Sunnat ideology?

In which case you might as well send your son to a normal school.
